Appropriations

In Adaptation and Appropriation (2006), Julie Sanders describes appropriations as "frequently affect[ing] a more decisive journey away from the informing source into a wholly new cultural product and domain....[T]he appropriated text or texts are not always as clearly singalled or acknowledged as in the adaptive process" (26). Here, Sanders makes the distinction between adaptation and appropriation by observing the often embeddedness of a source within appropriations. In other words, the appropriative text significantly detracts from and adds multiple layers to a source-text.
